What should I take on my hike

What should I take on my hike is the question you should ask yourself at the planning stage of your hike. On any hiking adventure or walking adventure there should be essential items that you need for a hike and optional items that just add convenience. Depending on the length and location of your hiking adventure, there are essential items that you will need to carry with you.

The following are items which you will need to consider taking on your hike. Seasons and trail conditions will determine whether some of the equipment is essential or optional ( for example snow hat, gloves, thermal underwear, insulated water bottle, etc)

Backpack - Water - Food - Emergency food- First Aid Kit – Hat - Sunscreen Knife- Compass - Antibiotics - Matches Flint or Lighter- Mobile Phone -Insect Repellant – Flashlight- Maps – Rain – Poncho – Gloves - Hiking socks
Hiking Boots- Thermal underwear - Garbage bags
 

Your First Aid kit should contain the following items:
Band aids.
• Sterile gauze dressings.
• Sterile eye dressings.
• Bandages.
• Safety pins.
• Disposable sterile gloves.
• Tweezers.
• Scissors.
• Alcohol-free cleansing wipes.
• Sticky tape.
• Thermometer, preferably digital.
• Skin rash cream such as hydrocortisone or calendula.
• Cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings.
• Antiseptic cream.
• Paracetamol
• Antihistamine tablets.

It is important to always be prepared for emergencies when you are hiking and to take precautions to assist you for unexpected situations. It is also vitally important to be prepared for the elements which you will encounter on your hike.
